Baby Reindeer (Netflix)

Starting with the big event of the year, Baby Reindeer debuted quietly in the Netflix catalog, but the series' unusual narrative quickly attracted audiences, transforming it into one of the most watched productions in the history of streaming.

Furthermore based on the real life of Richard Gadd, the plot follows a comedian at the beginning of his career who finds himself harassed by a woman named Martha.

The series was created, directed and starred by Gadd, who won Emmy Awards in the categories of Outstanding Miniseries, Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries and Outstanding Writing for a Miniseries.

Jessica Gunning, who plays stalker Martha, was also honored with the award for Best Supporting Actress.

The movie Baby Reindeer has an approval rating of 99% on Rotten Tomatoes.

True Detective: Nightland (Max)

As a fan of the first season of True Detective, I was quite apprehensive about the arrival of the fourth season.

To my delight, the series managed to pleasantly surprise me!

With the brilliant performances of Jodie Foster and Kali Reis, the new year of the anthology managed to masterfully recreate the dense and dark atmosphere, keeping the viewer involved from beginning to end.

True Detective: Nightland has an approval rating of 93% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Disclaimer (Apple TV+)

One Apple TV+ production that should receive more attention from the public is Disclaimer*, starring the incomparable Cate Blanchett.

The plot narrates the life of renowned reporter Catherine Ravenscroft, who, upon finding a book by an anonymous writer, is overcome with terror upon discovering that she is the central character in a narrative that exposes her deepest secret.

Disclaimer is an intriguing psychological thriller written and directed by Alfonso Cuarón (The Revenant). The series has achieved a 77% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

City of God: The Fight Doesn't Stop (Max)

Currently, there is a Brazilian series that deserves everyone's attention. “City of God: The Fight Does Not Stop” takes place twenty years after the events of the film and features several characters from the original cast.

Hopefully, the production manages to rescue an energy similar (or almost) to that of the 2002 film, presenting six intense, dramatic and agile episodes simultaneously.

The story revolves around the young drug dealer Bradock, who, after leaving prison, seeks to regain control of the hill, now in the hands of the leader Curió.

This fight places the inhabitants of Cidade de Deus at the center of the confrontation between the militia, drug trafficking and the security forces of Rio de Janeiro.

City of God: The Fight Continues has an approval rating of 83% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Mr. and Mrs. Smith (Prime Video)

The new version of the film starring Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt in 2005 was added to Prime Video at the beginning of the year, and it was already predictable that it would be among the best of the year.

The creation managed to maintain the essence of the original, giving life to a fresh narrative, starring a couple that radiates chemistry on screen. Donald Glover and Maya Erskine capture the audience with the same intensity as Jolie and Pitt.

The story is fast-paced, full of humor and also features the notable presence of Wagner Moura.

The series has a rating of 91% on Rotten Tomatoes.

One Day (Netflix)

Unfortunately, one of Netflix's most notable productions of 2024 didn't receive the attention it deserved among subscribers, but we're highlighting it here!

The miniseries, inspired by the work of David Nicholls, tells the story of Emma and Dexter, two friends who, after sharing graduation night, take different paths, although their lives remain connected.

The series portrays the ups and downs of the couple's relationship, always taking place on July 15th of each year.

If you are looking for a love story that makes your heart beat faster and awakens intense feelings, “One Day” will certainly win you over.

The work received a rating of 91% on Rotten Tomatoes.
