The plot involves Logan Roy (Brian Cox), a billionaire patriarch who owns one of the largest media conglomerates in the world and his four heirs.

2. The Last Of US

Based on the video game franchise created by Neil Druckmann, The Last Of Us (2023) features a dystopian setting where humanity faces a global pandemic caused by the cordyceps fungus, which transmutes people into cannibalistic undead.

For two decades after the beginning of the infection Joel (Pedro Pascal), who lives in a protected area, finds himself in trouble.

Later hired to escort young Ellie (Bella Ramsey) to a rebel camp, believing her to be the last hope for a cure.

Together, the duo will need to face many dangers to reach their goal.

However, the production was highly praised, both by critics and fans of the franchise.

The series was the second most nominated by the Academy, competing in 24 categories, which include “Best Drama Series”, “Best Drama Actor” and “Best Drama Actress” for Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, respectively.

3. The White Lotus

At first, the miniseries focuses on the luxury hotel franchise The White Lotus, so that each season has a narrative focused on a new nucleus and with new characters.

Featuring a strong cast, the production mixes comedy with suspense by focusing its stories on a murder case involving both guests and hotel staff.

The second season of The White Lotus (2021) was just behind The Last Of Us, receiving 23 nominations.

Still Barry Berkman (Bill Hader) is an ex-Marine turned contract killer.

Despite being great at what he does, Barry has a reflective period about continuing to murder people for money for the rest of his life.

Also in search of a new purpose, the ex-soldier starts acting classes, aiming to reconnect with his own emotions and with the people around him.

The production still features the participation of Henry Winkler (Gene Cousineau), Sarah Goldberg (Sally Reed), Stephen Root (Monroe Fuches) and Anthony Carrigan (NoHo Hank).

Barry's fourth and final season received 11 2023 Emmy nominations, including "Outstanding Comedy Series," "Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series" for Bill Harder and "Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series" for Anthony Carrigan and Henry Winkler.

5. House of the Dragon

Based on the book Fire & Blood by George RR Martin, the plot of House of the Dragon (2022) takes place 172 years before the birth of Daenerys Targaryen and the events presented in the saga of Ice and Fire, portrayed in the award-winning series Game of Thrones (2011).

The first season follows the beginning of the conflict between the half-brothers Aegon II (Tom Glynn-Carney) and Rhaenyra (Emma D'Arcy) for the Iron Throne, after the death of King Viserys I (Paddy Considine).

Thus, the production received 8 nominations at the 2023 Emmys, including the category of “Best Drama Series”.

Many fans were disappointed with the nominations, as none of the series' actors were nominated in the acting categories mainly for Paddy Considine's performance.
